Description

The Miami Design District is still developing, and shaping itself to much like any genuine neighborhood, there are plans for even more incredible stores, eateries, and galleries, as well as boutique hotels and homes.

Craig Robins, a native of Miami, began purchasing properties in the Miami Design District more than 20 years ago after seeing the area's potential. His vision was to revitalize a run-down area of Miami and turn it into a distinctive creative neighborhood with excellent architecture, design, and experiences. This unique vision for the area has now come to pass. Currently, the District is a thriving neighborhood where locals and guests can enjoy fantastic shopping, chef-driven restaurants, top-notch museums, and an abundance of outdoor space. The Design District started to draw design businesses, significant art collections and design exhibitions, and wonderful eating experiences thanks to diligent management and robust cultural programming. Design shops, headed by Holly Hunt, Knoll, Poliform, and others, came to the neighborhood as new structures were built and old structures were renovated. A program of art and design that is spectacular, culturally stimulating, and practical as a community has been at the heart of the Miami Design District. In 2011, L Catterton (formerly L Real Estate) joined Robins as a partner and pushed the LVMH luxury brands to acknowledge the distinctive potential of the neighborhood. The partnership held the opinion that because the District is strategically situated in Miami and is culturally at the forefront of the world's creative industry, those brands could set up shop there and present their entire product line in a variety of spaces that could reflect their brand through architecture and design - all just north of downtown and less than ten minutes from South Beach in a pedestrian-friendly setting. More than 120 upscale flagship retailers can be found in the area now, and the District is home to a number of cultural organizations like ICA Miami, the de la Cruz Collection, and Locust Projects.
