A mile or so west of Downtown is where the neighborhood of single-family houses known as The Roads Miami is situated. The Roads, also known as Brickell Roads, was once a community filled with longstanding inhabitants who moved there after World War II, but it has recently drawn more and more young professionals who work in the adjacent financial area of BRICKELL-DOWNTOWN. The Roads are essentially built up, and there aren't many available lots anymore, which has driven up prices over the past ten years. The Roads is renowned for its vintage private schools, stately mansions, and roads lined with trees. The Roads is a historic residential area despite being extremely near to Downtown and Brickell. The Roads' streets are all designated roads rather than streets and avenues, as is the case in the rest of Miami because it is not on the regular Miami street grid.
