Overview of Down Payment Assistance Programs for Florida Homebuyers

Through partner lenders and lending institutions spread across the State of Florida, Florida Housing's Homebuyer Program provides 30-year fixed rate first mortgage loans to first-time homeowners. Additionally, qualified borrowers may take advantage of one of Florida Housing's second mortgage programs to help them with closing costs and down payments.
There are some requirements in order to qualify for our Homebuyer Loan Program:
Minimum Credit Score of 640.
Must work with an approved, participating, Program Lender (click here to find an approved loan officer).
"Approved" Homebuyer Education is required to be completed.
Your purchase price must be below the limits for the county in which you purchase.
Your income must be below the limits for the county in which you purchase.
You must meet the IRS definition of a first-time homebuyer which means, you cannot have owned AND occupied your primary residence for the last three years prior to purchase.

To help qualified homeowners with their down payment and closing expenses, Florida Housing offers down payment and closing cost assistance in the form of a second mortgage loan. Only the first mortgage loan from Florida Housing may be combined with down payment assistance. Assistance with the down payment is NOT offered as a "stand-alone" down payment.
